Hazrat Mawlana Fazal Raheem Ashrafi (RA) was born on 10th November 1944 in Amritsar, in the household of Mufti Muhammad Hasan, who was a khalifah of Hakim al-Ummah Shaykh Ashraf ʿAli Thanvi and the founder of Jamia Ashrafiya. He completed his Hifz al-Qur’an and advanced Islamic studies up to Dawrah Hadith at Jamia Ashrafiya, graduating in 1962. His teachers included eminent scholars such as Mawlana Idris Kandhelvi, Mufti Hasan Amritsari, Shaykh Rasool Khan Hazarvi, Shaykh Ubaidullah Qasmi, and Mufti Jamia Ahmad Thanvi, among others. He later specialised in Tafsir al-Qur’an at Jamia Abbasiya, Bahawalpur (now The Islamia University of Bahawalpur), where he studied under Shaykh Shams al-Haq Afghani. Mawlana Fazal Raheem began teaching at Jamia Ashrafiya in 1961 and remained in service until 2025, dedicating over six decades to Islamic education. He taught Hadith from 1992 and Sahih al-Bukhari from 2011. In 2016, he was appointed Principal of Jamia Ashrafiya. He also rendered significant national service as a Member of the Islami Nazriyati Council, President of the Punjab Qur’an Board, and Patron (Sarparast) of Wifaq al-Madaris al-ʿArabiyyah. His scholarly legacy continues through his son, Hafiz Zubair Hasan, who graduated in 1992, has been teaching since then, and currently serves as a teacher of Hadith and Vice Principal of Jamia Ashrafiya.
